Man charged in fracas with police

County police arrested an Odenton man on disorderly conduct and battery charges Monday after a scuffle in Glen Burnie during which officers were threatened.

Mark David Sullivan, 28, of the 1300 block of Farrar St. was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault, battery, and failure to obey a police officer.

Police were called about 1: 30 a.m. to break up a fight in front of a house in the 100 block of Louise Terrace. When they arrived, they found three men wrestling in the road and broke up the fight.

One of the men, who was bleeding from his face, yelled at the officers that he was glad they had arrived.

The man smelled strongly of alcohol and was swaying and staggering, police said. Officer David Frendlich told the man to lower his voice.

When Frendlich told the man a second time to lower his voice, the man cursed again and drew back his fist as if to strike, police said, and the officer grabbed the man's arm and began to struggle with him.

Officer Sam Sweet joined the struggle. When the man broke loose, Sweet sprayed him in the face with pepper spray and Frendlich handcuffed him.

Police used leg irons and a restraining device to control the man, who thrashed wildly and cursed.
