The Stroh Brewery Co. said yesterday that it will retain W. B. Doner & Co. of Baltimore to do the advertising campaigns for brands that previously were part of G. Heileman Brewing Co., which Stroh acquired.
For Heileman, Doner handled the Champale, Colt 45, Lone Star, Old Style, EX, Henry Weinhard's, Mickey's, Special Export and Rainier accounts.
"Based on Doner's excellent creative work with these brands when they were part of the G. Heileman portfolio, it was a natural choice to retain them," said Joe Martino, Stroh's senior executive for marketing.
Doner, which has offices across the nation as well as in Canada and London, estimated total 1996 billings of more than $500 million.
Stroh said it will retain Hal Riney & Partners of San Francisco as its agency of record for the Stroh brand portfolio, which includes Stroh's, Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, Schaefer, Augsburger and Red River Valley brands. Burrell Communications Group of Chicago will continue to work for Stroh's Schlitz Malt Liquor brand.
Based in Detroit, Stroh is the nation's fourth largest brewing company. It makes more than 40 brands of beer.
