No more arrests made in alleged plan to sell baby

Authorities continued their preliminary investigation into whether a Maryland woman is involved in an alleged plan to arrange to buy a Connecticut baby, and they made no further arrests, according to Larry Foust, an FBI spokesman.

Calvert County resident Candace Petrovits, who may be involved in a plan to transfer a 6-week-old child from his parents in exchange for about $1,200 in back rent, is not the focus of a full-blown investigation, Foust said. Another woman, who allegedly was caring for the baby, James Timothy Luddy Jr., told police the baby was supposed to go to Petrovits, according to police in Torrington, Conn.

The woman, the baby's parents and Petrovits' brother were arrested last week on charges of risking injury to a child, according to Torrington police.
