A Pasadena man got a scare Tuesday when he found what he thought was a pipe bomb in his truck, county police said.
John Eugene Rothe, 30, told police that he went to his truck, which was parked in front of his home on Waterview Drive, shortly before 10 p.m. to put a tool bucket into the cab. When he picked up the bucket, he saw a Burger King bag inside, police said.
Rothe looked into the bag and found what he thought was a pipe bomb, police said. Rothe dropped the bag and called police. Officers sealed off the area and called state fire marshals, who used robots to examine the object, sprayed with a water cannon and found that it was a fake, police said.
Police are investigating the incident.
