Angels: Center fielder Jim Edmonds left in the bottom of the fifth inning with blurred vision in his left eye.

Cubs: Sammy Sosa left after four innings because he bruised a right hand when he was hit in the first. His status is day-to-day. . . . Center fielder Brian McRae was scratched because of a bruised left knee, suffered when he was hit by a pitch Monday.

Mets: Bobby Jones is 4-1 in eight starts against the Giants.

Reds: Mark Portugal, who left Monday's game with a sore right elbow in the second inning, received a cortisone shot and is expected to miss his next start.

Red Sox: Pitcher Stan Belinda was put back on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Rockies: Pitcher Bill Swift, who has missed most of the season after shoulder surgery, is slated to pitch for Salem of the Single-A Carolina League in an injury rehabilitation start tonight.

Tigers: Phil Nevin, who spent much of this season at Double-A Jacksonville learning to become a catcher, made his first big-league start behind the plate. . . . The 16 runs were the Tigers' most since a 17-11 win over the Orioles Aug. 12, 1993.

Yankees: David Cone will pitch for Double-A Norwich today in a rehabilitation start. Cone has been sidelined since early May, when he had an aneurysm removed from his right arm. . . . The Yankees had been scoreless in 21 innings against the Angels before the third.
