Leo Plowden McLaughlin,84, a former Jesuit priest and the one-time president of Fordham University during the 1960s, died Thursday at an infirmary on the school's Bronx, N.Y., campus. He took up the presidency at Fordham University in 1965 and during his four years opened up the curriculum beyond the traditional theological courses, encouraged academic experimentation, fought for higher teacher salaries and took control of the university out of Jesuit hands.
