Outgoing college president honored for foundation
Carroll Community College recently honored the outgoing president of the Carroll Community College Foundation for his efforts during the first two years of the foundation's existence.
John Salony was given a Friends of the College pin from the board of trustees and a plaque from the foundation's board of directors.
As foundation president, Salony helped build the structure of the board, established new scholarships and introduced the community to the foundation's work.
Salony also helped launch the amphitheater campaign and has donated money to the college. His work with the college goes back to the 1980s when he was a member of the Planning Committee, Future of the College Task Force and the college's advisory board.
Salony lives in Eldersburg.
Sylvan Learning Center an accreditation candidate
Sylvan Learning Center of Carroll County has earned candidacy for accreditation by the Commission on Elementary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Accreditation would mean that Sylvan meets a large number of standards for education in the county, including defining appropriate goals and providing necessary programs to achieve them, maintaining qualified instructional staff, assessing outcomes of school experiences and controlling the quality of educational programs.
Credits offered by accredited schools and programs are generally accepted by other accredited schools, colleges and universities. When students could earn credit from Sylvan, if accredited, is uncertain.
