Bold thieves made off with a large Baltimore Ravens welcoming banner, taken from the side of a sports memorabilia store on Route 140 during morning rush hour Aug. 8.
Maryland State Police at the Westminster barracks handled the $100 theft report by Great Moments, in the 400 block of Baltimore Blvd. (Route 140).
Carla Conigliaro, a co-owner of the business, said the 12-foot-by-3-foot plasticized banner was bolted to the store sign facing Route 140. Against a white background, it read: "Westminster Welcomes" (in black lettering) the "Baltimore Ravens" (in purple lettering).
"It was one we had made up. We wanted it big enough to see," she said.
Conigliaro said the theft apparently occurred between 7: 30 a.m. and 9: 30 a.m. Aug. 8. A neighboring store owner found one of his outdoor chairs against the wall where the Great Moments banner had been hanging.
"It's amazing," Conigliaro said of the theft.
"We all know how busy 140 is at those hours."
She and her husband had been at the Ravens training camp at Western Maryland College that day, she said.
