New faces await students as year begins

Some new faces, and faces in different places, will greet Carroll County students when they return to school Aug. 26.

The school board yesterday approved promoting and hiring several new administrators.

Dorothy L. Henry, a guidance counselor at Spring Garden Elementary School, will be the teaching assistant principal at Carrolltowne Elementary School.

Jacklyn M. Moore, a teacher at New Windsor Middle School, will be assistant principal at North Carroll Middle School.

Richard P. Akers, a teacher at Smithsburg High School in Washington County, will be assistant principal at Francis Scott Key High School.

Michelle R. Amrhein, a teacher at Hampstead Elementary School, will be assistant principal at Freedom Elementary School.

The board also hired Thomas A. Bowersox, an officer of transportation for the Army, as an assistant in the school transportation office.

Earlier this summer, the board approved other changes:

Virginia Ashemore, assistant principal at Westminster East Middle, is principal at Mount Airy Middle School.

Robert Mitchell, assistant principal at Freedom, is principal at Manchester Elementary.

Ralph Viggiano, an elementary principal from Prince George's County, is principal at Piney Ridge Elementary.

Jack Gettemy, assistant principal at Francis Scott Key, was transferred to the same job at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center.
