On the field: Among the many home run records tied, set and threatened last night, Juan Gonzalez and Dean Palmer each hit his eighth career homer at Camden Yards, matching the most by any Orioles opponent. Cleveland's Albert Belle and Seattle's Jay Buhner each have eight homers at Oriole Park, as well.
In the dugout: Roberto Alomar and B. J. Surhoff rested nagging injuries last night, but their absence allowed Orioles manager Davey Johnson to load up his lineup with right-handed hitters against Texas lefty Darren Oliver, including Bill Ripken and Manny Alexander.
In the clubhouse: Before the teams agreed to play a doubleheader today, Johnson said it was difficult to find an Orioles off day for a makeup, in part because the Orioles' schedule is crowded. "We have a terrible schedule," he said. "Whoever made it up wasn't an Orioles fan. It was the worst I've seen in a long time."
