Shepherd suspended for brushback Minor Leagues

Keith Shepherd, a right-hander for Triple-A Rochester who spent some time with the Orioles this season, has been suspended for four games for throwing behind Tony Rodriguez of Pawtucket June 1, immediately after giving up a homer to Jim Tatum.

Shepherd, a former amateur boxer known as Kid Apache, also was fined $450. Throwing at hitters carries a minimum penalty of three games, but Shepherd got four games because he's a repeat offender.

Red Wings 4, Chiefs 2: Rocky Coppinger (6-4) gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings, lifting host Rochester past Syracuse in an International League game.

Coppinger struck out five and walked none. He shut out the Chiefs after Michael Huff's two-run homer in the second inning.

Jimmy Myers pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his third save for the Red Wings.

Shortstop Eddie Zosky went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for Rochester.

Shorebirds 6, Alley Cats 4: Visiting Delmarva tied it in the ninth inning on Jose Fernandez's home run, then scored three in the 12th to beat Charleston, W.Va., in a Single-A South Atlantic League game last night.

Ed Acosta, usually an infielder, pitched the bottom of the 12th and got the save for the Shorebirds.

Carolos Adolfo's triple drove in the go-ahead run in the 12th. Fernando Seguignol's sacrifice fly and D.C. Olsen's double drove in the other runs in the inning.
