Long & Foster posts record sales in March
Long & Foster, the mid-Atlantic region's largest real estate company, had a record March, with sales of $850 million on 5,027 properties. This was a 17 percent increase over March 1995, and was the second-best month in the company's 28-year history, according to President P. Wesley Foster Jr.
The Baltimore region was up 17 percent, while suburban Maryland was up 12 percent and Northern Virginia was up 23 percent.
Pulte is country's largest homebuilder
Pulte Home Corp. has been named the country's largest homebuilder by a leading trade publication.
In its April issue, Professional Builder based the ranking on 1995 housing revenues and units sold. The magazine said Pulte beat the previous leader, Centex Homes of Dallas, which now ranks second.
Pulte, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., sold 12,456 homes for revenues of $1.93 billion, compared with Centex's 11,790 homes for $1.92 billion.
Third was the Ryland Group of Columbia. NVR Inc. of McLean, Va., was seventh nationally. NVR is the parent of Ryan Homes and NV Homes.
Ryland was named the top-selling builder in the Baltimore region in 1995, with 961 sales, according to Legg Mason's Housing Market Profiles.
But the two NVR companies -- Ryan and NV Homes -- sold 1,101 homes in the region last year, most of them, 944, by Ryan.
In the Baltimore region, Pulte is third, selling 494 homes last year, according to Legg Mason.
