Steve Pettengill, second-place finisher in the 1994-1995 BOC Around-the-World Race, will join 10 other experts in sailing safety at the Annapolis Safety-at-Sea Seminar at the Naval Academy on March 30-31.
The BOC is a single-handed race, and Pettengill is considered an expert in preparing for and completing long-distance solo voyages.
Steve Callahan, who drifted 1,800 miles over 76 days after his boat sank in the Atlantic Ocean in 1982, will discuss survival tactics, including making do with what one has.
Dave Martin, who with his family of four has completed two trans-Atlantic crossings and a circumnavigation in a 25-foot sloop, will discuss short-handed sailing safety.
The program is divided into two parts, with the basic session set for Saturday and an advanced session for Sunday. Advance tickets will be $40 for one day or $70 for both. Tickets at the door will be $50.
