St. Augustine's knocks out Bowie State


Eric Harris and Lafonte Moses combined for 31 second-half points as St. Augustine's pulled away to beat Bowie State, 92-81, in the first round of the CIAA tournament yesterday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Bowie State (9-18) has never won a game in the tournament.

The Bulldogs trailed 76-66 on a layup by Moses but rallied to cut the lead to 83-81 with 1:30 left. James Bryant scored four straight points to seal the victory.

* Villa Julie 96, Capital College 75: Kelly Matthews' game-high 26 points helped Villa Julie (6-19) defeat Capital College.

Shuron Woodyard added 20 points and eight assists for Villa Julie, while Demetrius Trowell led Capital College with 20 points.
