NBA: Named New Jersey Nets F Armon Gilliam Player of the Week. Gilliam led the Nets to three victories last week, shooting 50.8 percent and averaging 28.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Bulls: Activated C Luc Longley. Placed C James Edwards (strained Achilles' tendon) on the injured list.

Lakers: Announced former G Gail Goodrich, recently elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, will have his No. 25 jersey retired by the club next season.


USA Boxing: Announced the contract of Bruce Mathis, executive director, would not be renewed. Named David Lubs executive director.


Big South: UMBC C Monica Logan was named Rookie of the Week. Logan aver

aged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games.

Centennial Conference: Gettysburg F Phil Tonkins (Mount Hebron) was named to the basketball first team. Tonkins led the Bullets in scoring (17.0) and rebounding (6.6). Western Maryland's Will Marshall (Sparrows Point) and Johns Hopkins' Greg Roehrig were on the second team, and Wes Unseld (Loyola) of Johns Hopkins received honorable mention. Erin Murphey (Francis Scott Key) and Johns Hopkins' Julie Anderson were named to the women's basketball first team.

Patriot League: Navy's Heidi Fearon and Julia Mason were named Co-Female Swimmers of the Year after leading the Midshipmen to their fifth straight Patriot League swimming and diving title.

Centre: Announced Tom Bryant, men's basketball coach, will resign at the end of the season.

Clemson: Named Darrell Moody quarterbacks coach.

Florida State: Suspended men's basketball coach Pat Kennedy one game for his actions in Saturday's game against Clemson.
