Annapolis aldermen will consider whether the city should get just a little bigger when they review two annexation proposals tonight.
The city council will vote on a plan to annex a 30-acre vacant wooded lot on Harness Creek View Drive, where Annapolis-based developer G. W. Koch hopes to build 49 luxury houses.
Members also will hear for the first time a proposal to annex land on Bay Ridge Road, one of three properties along that route that city officials have valued at a combined $30 million-plus. The land in question, at Edgewood Road, is home to several businesses.
Proponents argue that the annexed land could generate millions in tax revenues, especially because most of the property is prime real estate.
The Harness Creek property is valued at $12 million and could bring in $83,000 annually in taxes, Kathie Sulick, the city finance director, has said.
The two properties up for discussion tonight are among several expensive ones in the county that the city is trying to take over. All the land proposed for annexation, much of it near the Chesapeake Bay, is valued at a total of $100 million. Property within the city limits is assessed at $950 million.
The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
