Dance the night away with Kelly

No man was responsible for more great movie musicals than the late Gene Kelly. Tonight, Turner Classic Movies offers the proof. Watch, and enjoy.

* "The X-Files" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- In this first of a two-parter, Nick Lea returns as Alex Krycek, an out-of-control agent who killed Mulder's father. Also, divers salvaging a downed World War II fighter plane suffer radiation burns. Not a good sign. Fox.

* "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" (9:30 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- The Harlem Globetrotters show up to try to give this series' ratings a little artificial respiration. ABC.

* "Homicide: Life on the Street" (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt and Jill Hennessy visit from "Law & Order," as the investigation into a poison-gas attack in New York and a similar incident at a church in Baltimore continues. This show is that rarity of rarities, a sweeps month stunt that actually works. NBC.

* "Late Show with David Letterman" (11:35 p.m.-12:35 a.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- It's Beauty and the Beasts night, as Uma Thurman and The Ramones get to share the stage. Gabba Gabba Hey! CBS.

* "On The Town" (7 p.m.-9 p.m.), "An American In Paris" (9 p.m.-11 p.m.), "Singin' in the Rain" (11 p.m.-1 a.m.), "For Me and My Gal" (1 a.m.-3 a.m.) and "Anchors Aweigh" (3 a.m.-5 a.m., TCM) -- Gene Kelly was always fun to watch, and in these five films, he and his dancing artistry positively shine. "Singin'" is certainly the best, but none of the others are shabby either, especially the ballet that ends "An American in Paris" and the "New York, New York" number filmed on location for "On The Town."

* "Intimate Portrait" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., Lifetime) -- Maya Angelou has led an extraordinary life, and listening to her talk about it is the main draw here. Sadly, the show rarely tries to dig below the surface, and it pretty much ignores the past 20 years. It's informative, but Ms. Angelou deserves better.
