Robber strikes woman on head with handgun

A Glen Burnie woman who tried to foil a holdup man Monday was struck on the head with a handgun and lost her purse, county police said.

Song Ye Fleming, 49, of the 6300 block of Smithy Square and her roommate, Chey Chey Moore, were crossing the parking lot at their apartment complex shortly before 11 p.m. when two men wearing ski masks and gloves demanded money from them, police said.

One of the men pointed a black automatic handgun at Ms. Fleming and grabbed her hand when she hesitated. Ms. Fleming bit his hand, and the man beat her with the gun and ran toward Cedar Furnace Circle and Lacrosse Lane with her purse, police said.

An unarmed man wrenched Ms. Moore's pocketbook from her grasp, patted her down and ran after his accomplice, police said.

Ms. Moore called police. Ms. Fleming was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released.
