A Woodland Beach man who had his car stereo stolen followed tracks in the newly fallen snow early Friday to find a suspect, county police said.
Lytton Edward Peake, 20, of the 1600 block of Fullerton Road in Edgewater, was arrested and charged with theft.
Patrick H. Wood, of the 1600 block of Bay Ridge Road, discovered that his car had been broken into some time after midnight and saw two sets of footprints leading away from the car. He followed the tracks through several streets in Woodland Beach until he reached two men on Salisbury Road, police said.
Mr. Wood told the men his car was stuck in the snow and offered them money to help him. They began to follow him, but ran in different directions when Mr. Wood stopped a car and asked the driver to call police.
Mr. Wood followed one set of footprints to a house near his, then went home and called police about 4:30 a.m. Police found five men sleeping in the basement of the house.
One matched the description Mr. Wood had given them, and Mr. Wood later identified the man, police said.
Man pulls handgun, robs Lothian bank
A gunman robbed a Lothian bank Friday of an undisclosed amount of money, county police said.
A man walked into the Farmers Bank of Maryland branch in the 5400 block of Southern Maryland Blvd., gave a teller a paper bag, and demanded money, police said.
The man then pulled a black handgun from his waistband and demanded money from all of the tellers.
All the tellers complied, filling the bag with cash and a dye pack, police said. The man took the bag and left.
Police searched the area but were unable to find the man or any evidence the dye pack had exploded.
