After months of searching, the Columbia Association has appointed one of its longtime employees as its new chief financial officer.
Rafia P. Siddiqui, 46, who joined the association in 1979 as an assistant controller, is the nonprofit homeowners association's new director of administrative services and chief financial officer. She replaces Robert R. Krawczak, chief financial officer for nine years, who died last year.
"Rafia Siddiqui brings impressive accounting and financial strengths to CA," said President Padraic Kennedy, who announced the appointment last week. "Over 160 candidates applied for the position, and after interviewing the most qualified applicants, members of the board and I agreed that Rafia clearly stood out as the best person for the job."
Days after the announcement, Mrs. Siddiqui said her experience with the organization has helped prepare her to lead the association "into the 21st century."
"I plan to serve the Columbia community the best way I can," she said.
Mrs. Siddiqui, who lives with her husband and three children in Dorsey Search village, served as assistant treasurer and controller from 1980 till 1985 and as treasurer and controller since 1985.
A certified public accountant, Mrs. Siddiqui graduated with honors from the University of Baltimore in 1979, receiving her bachelor's degree in accounting.
She also is president of the board of directors for an international professional association of computer software users, called the Financial Management Systems Users Group, and a member of the board of directors for FIRN, the Foreign-born Information & Referral Network.
