Gene Mellin named firefighter volunteer of the year at banquet


Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department named Gene Mellin volunteer of the year for 1995 at its recent installation and awards banquet.

Doug Alexander received the president's award. Rookie of the year went to Doug Wallace. Jerry Shaw was given the Emergency Medical Services award.

The fire chief's awards went to Alan Siegrist and the Junior Fire Department and a special chief's award to Tom Fleming.

Certificates of appreciation were given to Jim Previti, Becky Brown and Miss Mount Airy Fire Prevention, Kelley Seeto.

Top fire responders were: Jim Linton, Alan Siegrist, C. J. Hamilton, Jerry Shaw and Mr. Mellin.

Top ambulance responders were: Mr. Shaw, Mr. Siegrist, Ms. Brown, Mr. Hamilton and Peter Fitzpatrick.

Administrative officers for 1996 are: Ricky Baker, president; Willy Wotthlie, first vice president; Bill Lawton, second vice president; Susan Hubble, secretary, and Eleonore Barritt, assistant; Ann Ward, financial secretary; James Linton, treasurer, and Janet Kipe, assistant.

Line officers are: Dale Lowman, fire chief; Doug Alexander, deputy chief; Mr. Mellin, first assistant chief; Bruce Walz, second assistant chief; Kenny Stull, Emergency Medical Services captain 1-1; Jim Crum, EMS captain 1-2; Mike Pappas, Mr. Shaw, Mr. Hamilton, Mary Christiansen, fire rescue lieutenants; Stacy Fossett and Dena Staley, EMS lieutenants.

Junior Fire Department officers are: Jeff Lowman, president; Jon Holmes, vice president; Kristen Corn, secretary/treasurer; Craig Avery, captain; Eric Krueger, lieutenant.
