Austin Lanham to participate in Young Leaders Conference

Austin Lanham of Westminster has been selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference Nov. 14-19 in Washington. The national conference is a leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.

Austin, a junior at Westminster High, will be among 350 students attending the conference from across the country.

Students will visit foreign embassies, have a panel discussion with journalists at the National Press Club, observe the House of Representatives, meet senators and representatives and take part in leadership skill-building activities.

Students also will participate in a mock Congress, where they will assume the roles of U.S. representatives by debating, amending and voting on proposed legislation on crime.

Austin is an honor roll student and has been elected to "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He is active in the German and ski clubs and is on the varsity football and wrestling teams.
