Inn to sponsor California wine tasting, dinner

Antrim 1844 Country Inn in Taneytown will sponsor "A Celebration of California Wines" wine tasting and dinner Nov. 8. The event will feature an introduction to two vineyards, the French-inspired Domaine Chandon of Yountville, Calif., and Trefethen of Napa Valley.

Executive chef Sharon Ashburn has put together a six-course gourmet menu to complement the wines. The guests of honor, Janet Trefethen of Trefethen Vineyards and Mike Jones of Domaine Chandon, will discuss their wine-making styles and share their experiences in the wine industry.

The evening will include the auctioning of a prize package that includes two round-trip tickets to California for tours and tastings at both vineyards, dinner for two at Domaine Chandon restaurant and a night's stay at the Trefethen guest house. Other items up for bid include wines from each of the vineyards and a weekend stay at Antrim's historic country-inn resort.

All proceeds will benefit the Carroll County Children's Fund.

To end the evening, participants are invited to adjourn to the veranda for cognacs, port and cigars.

The cost of the event is $65 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For reservations and more information, call the Antrim at 795-6812 or (800) 858-1844.
