Officer checking on man in car makes drug-possession arrest

County police arrested a Forestville man on drug charges Friday after an officer reported finding crack cocaine and pipes in his car, authorities said.

The man was sitting in a 1987 Toyota Camry parked along Furnace Branch Road near Route 648 shortly after 8:30 p.m., police said. Because it was raining heavily, the officer stopped and knocked on the window to make sure the driver was all right, police said.

The man began to drive away, but stopped when the officer yelled. The officer saw the man holding a corncob pipe, spoon and nail file, police said.

The officer searched the car and recovered three vials of crack cocaine, 12 vials with cocaine residue, a paper bag with a small amount of marijuana, five smoking screens, rolling papers, and a wooden pipe, police said.

James Martin Nell, 41, of the 6600 block of Evanston St., was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
