Capitals forward Pat Peake, who had seven points in Washington's first nine games, has been placed on the injured list and will be out for at least a month.
No penalty was called on the play, but Washington general manager David Poile has sent a tape to Brian Burke, the NHL's vice president and director of hockey operations, and asked him to review the incident.
Peake was held overnight at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and did not accompany the team home Sunday night. He was released yesterday and flew home.
The Capitals had yesterday off. They will resume practice today in preparation for tomorrow's game at USAir Arena against the revitalized Montreal Canadiens.
In other moves, the Capitals assigned right wing Martin Gendron (one goal, one assist) and center Stefan Ustorf (one goal, two assists) to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. The team also sent rookie defenseman Nolan Baumgartner back to Kamloops of the Western Hockey League.
