A local woman has been selected to help the South Baltimore Learning Center, a literacy program, recruit and organize community volunteers.
Michele Spangle of Glen Burnie recently completed training with the Governor's Office on Volunteerism to become a coordinator for Volunteer Maryland.
Ms. Spangle, a graduate of the Maryland Institute, College of Art, will spend the next year working with the nonprofit learning center in the first block of E. Ostend St.
Scott Pestridge, a program specialist with Volunteer Maryland, said Ms. Spangle will be "the point person for turning up the volunteer support in the community expanding the facility's volunteer program."
In return for her full-time volunteer work, she will receive $4,700 to continue her education or help pay off a college loan.
