Escaped inmate recaptured after 4-hour hunt

A county jail inmate who escaped from a work detail at the Western District police station Tuesday afternoon was recaptured without incident after a four-hour manhunt, county police said.

The inmate was one of four assigned to a work detail at the station. About 1:30 p.m., he climbed over a security fence at the station and fled, police said. A state police helicopter and police dogs tracked the escapee through the woods along Route 32, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a witness called police to tell them the inmate was in the 1000 block of Reece Road near Redbridge Drive. An officer saw the escapee in the 1400 block of Larch Road, police said. Lt. Dennis M. Bailey chased the man and caught him.

Jackie Teter, 18, of the 1400 block of Berger St. in Odenton was charged with escape. He had been jailed on a burglary charge.
