William T. Scharpe, 75, Martin Marietta engineer

William T. Scharpe, who retired in 1982 as a Martin Marietta Corp. engineer and was active in German cultural organizations, died Sept. 2 of cancer at his Parkville residence. He was 75.

He enjoyed cooking wursts at area German festivals and was a member of the Baltimore Kickers, the GTV Immergruen, the Edelweiss, the Cardinal Gibbons Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Friendly Seniors.

A Mass of Christian burial for the Gardenville native was offered Sept. 5. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Cherlein Beckman; two daughters, Linda M. Corbett of Cockeysville and Barbara B. Offermann of Port Angeles, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
