Man, mother-in-law killed in car crash

A Woodbine man and his mother-in-law were killed in a two-car crash Saturday morning at Route 31 and West Main Street, Westminster police said.

Karl Costin, 52, of the 5200 block of Woodbine Road and Bertha Viola Green, 83, of the 100 block of Timber Ridge Drive were pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Costin's wife, Kathleen Ann Costin, 49, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and was released Sunday.

Police said a 1987 Subaru driven by Mr. Costin was traveling west on West Main Street, apparently went through a traffic light and was struck on the driver's side by a 1989 Pontiac Le Mans northbound on Route 31.

The Pontiac was driven by Tracy Lynn Franklin, 24, of the 4100 block of Baptist Road in Taneytown. She was treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released, police said. Officers said all drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts and no charges would be filed.
