Twenty-two Maryland companies have been named to Inc. magazine's list of the nation's 500 fastest-growing private companies, placing the Free State fifth among the 50 states in nurturing up and coming entrepreneurs.
The top Maryland company on the list in terms of sales is No. 37 Counter Technology, a Bethesda firm that provides security management and telecommunications systems design services. The company's sales grew 3,157 percent between 1990 and 1994, reaching $10.1 million last year.
The Baltimore area's top performer was No. 60 Cosmopolitan of Columbia, which provides engineering and construction services to the U.S. government. Cosmopolitan's 1994 sales were $5.8 million, up from $219,000 in 1990. The firm has 60 employees.
Two other Columbia firms on the list were No. 313 Green Spring Health Services, which manages mental health care programs, and No. 363 RWD Technologies Inc., a technical services firm.
ComPro Systems of Jessup (356) and Family Advocacy Services of Catonsville (256) are the other Baltimore-area firms cited.
