Wright's many happy returns for Stallions make him CFL's Offensive Player of Week

Baltimore Stallions rookie Chris Wright has been named the Canadian Football League's Offensive Player of the Week after piling up 253 return yards in last week's 29-27 victory over Saskatchewan.

Wright returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown in the first half, then set up a second-half field goal by returning a missed Saskatchewan field goal for a franchise-record 100 yards.

Wright, who has amassed 2,026 return yards, needs 177 return yards over his last two games to break the single-season CFL record of 2,202 set by Edmonton Eskimos star Gizmo Williams.

A favorite for CFL Rookie of the Year honors, Wright is third in the league with 2,161 all-purpose yards.

Running back Mike Pringle, who rushed for 179 yards against Saskatchewan, was a runner-up in the Offensive Player of the Week award voting.

NOTES: Linebacker Matt Goodwin, who had eight defensive tackles and a fumble recovery, was a runner-up in the Defensive Player of the Week voting. . . . Offensive tackle Shar Pourdanesh was a runner-up for Lineman of the Week. . . . Nose tackle Jearld Baylis, originally listed as a participant, will not attend tomorrow's Football Is Funball clinic at Memorial Stadium.
