Police arrested a Severn man on drug charges yesterday after stopping his car at Route 175 and Disney Road.
Officers stopped the car about 4 p.m. because the driver had a suspended license, police said. The officers also had received information that the driver might be involved in drug trafficking in Pioneer City, police said.
Police ordered the driver out, searched the 1981 Chevrolet and found 9.1 grams of crack cocaine, worth about $900 on the street, inside an asthma inhaler hidden in a black bag, police said.
James Edward Saunders, 37, of the 8500 block of Pioneer Drive in Severn, was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute and traffic charges.
Beltsville man, 69, robbed by 3 masked men
County police are looking for three men who forced their way into a 69-year-old Beltsville man's car early yesterday, forced him to drive to the Anne Arundel section of Laurel, stole his wallet and threw his keys away.
According to police, the men approached Clarence Hughes, of the 11200 block of Cherry Hill Road in Beltsville shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday after he got into his car in front of his house. One of the men knocked on his window, and after Mr. Hughes rolled down his window, the man tucked a hand in a pants pocket to imply that he had a gun and ordered Mr. Hughes to unlock the car doors.
Two men got into the back of the car, and one got into the front. All three were wearing stocking masks, police said.
The man in the front seat held a knife to Mr. Hughes' groin while one in the back directed the man to the 200 block of Red Clay Road in Laurel, police said. When they arrived, the thieves took his wallet and told Mr. Hughes to turn the car off. One of them took Mr. Hughes' keys and threw them into the grass at the side of a building, and the men fled, police said.
