Playwright Terrence McNally, winner of the 1995 Tony Award for "Love! Valour! Compassion!" is being represented in this area with productions of five of his plays. One of those, his touching 1993 drama, "A Perfect Ganesh," begins performances Tuesday at AXIS Theatre. Under Terry Long's direction, Carol Cohen and Mary Alice Feather will portray two Connecticut matrons on a journey of discovery in India.

Show times at AXIS, 3600 Clipper Mill Road, are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with pay-what-you-can previews at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 18. Tickets are $12 Thursdays and Fridays, and $14 Saturdays. Tickets opening night, Thursday, Oct. 19, are $18 and include a post-play reception. "A Perfect Ganesh" runs through Nov. 19.
