Robbery suspects remain in jail

Two men charged with trying to grab a purse from an 81-year-old in Columbia Thursday remained in a Jessup jail yesterday, a Howard District Court commissioner said.

Ryan Courtney, 21, of the 1300 block of Hickory Log Circle in Columbia's Owen Brown village was being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $75,000 bail. Craig William Hann, 18, of Carroll County was being held on $50,000 bail. Both are charged with robbery, police said.

The Columbia woman was outside the Owen Brown Place high-rise apartment complex in the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way about 9:50 a.m. Thursday when two men struggled with her for her purse, said Sgt. Steve Keller, a police spokesman.

The woman held on to her property, and the suspects ran. Shortly afterward, residents at nearby Hickory Log Circle reported seeing people who looked suspicious, police said.

Officers arrested Mr. Courtney and Mr. Hann after the woman identified them, police said.
