No. 1 Fallston pushes past Perry Hall, 1-0 Wolf goal with 9:00 left lifts Cougars to 8-0 record

No. 1 Fallston (8-0) needed Cindy Wolf's goal off an indirect kick with nine minutes left to get a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Perry Hall (6-3) in girls soccer yesterday.

The Cougars put a lot of pressure on the ball and the Gators in the first 10 minutes, but the home team, led by sweeper Jen McCarty, was equal to the task. Thereafter, it was a bruising contest with most of the scoring opportunities coming in the second half.

Perry Hall had several chances but could not convert during a crowded goal-mouth situation off a corner kick, and Sue Fortkiewicz made two dazzling saves when goalkeeper Stephanie Korman went out to challenge and then could not recover.

At the other end, Fallston keeper Emily Weibel came out to win a one-on-one matchup against Aubrey Schaeffer in the first half.

"That's the best game we've played," Perry Hall coach Patrick Sokoloski said. "I was impressed with Fallston's intensity and speed in beating us to the ball, but I thought we handled it well."
