Builders group presents land design seminar
The Land Development Council of the Home Builders Association of Maryland is sponsoring an eight-part seminar series focusing on the technical aspects of land design and development.
The first seminar, on surveying, will be held Wednesday evening at the HBAM offices in Woodlawn. It will be presented by David S. Thaler. Subsequent seminars will run on select Wednesday evenings through February.
Topics include storm water management, wetlands, forestation and the legal aspects of developing. The cost per seminar is $40, which includes the materials. For more information and to register, contact the HBAM at 265-7400.
First-time homebuyers can attend free workshops
The Belair-Edison Housing Service, Janie Lee Buyer's Realty and five area lenders are holding a series of three free workshops for first time homebuyers and new homeowners.
First-time buyers who participate in the workshops will be eligible for below-market interest rates, free appraisals, reduced closing costs and low down payments, according to the Belair-Edison group.
"The Home Buying Process" will be the topic of the first workshop on Oct. 16. The second session on Oct. 23 will cover "Credit and Financing." "Home Inspection and Home Maintenance" are scheduled for the Oct. 30 workshop.
Workshops will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at La Fontaine Rouge Crystal Room, 3107 Erdman Avenue. Call 485-8422 for additional information or a reservation.
Public can take tour of the Masco mansion
California Closet Company's Baltimore franchise, headed by John Pilli, designed and installed a kitchen pantry and bedroom and hall closets for the Masco Showhome of the East at the Estates at Forest Glen in Columbia.
Showcasing the latest in home products and design trends, the Masco mansion includes fire hoses on every floor, an elevator, videophone, state-of-the-art home theater system and computer-controlled electric, lighting and security systems.
The house is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster, American National Savings Bank and at the door. Prices: $10 weekdays, $12 weekends, $2 more at the house. For information and directions call (410) 654-9100.
