Revisiting the past: 'Flipper,' 'Andy Griffith' and Ollie North

It's a night of oldies -- or at least new oldies. "Flipper" has a new show, Oliver North re-surfaces in a fictional role, and Andy Griffith and the Mayberry gang are featured in a cable marathon.

* "Flipper" (5 p.m.-6 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- The dynamic dolphin's back! Of course, the aquatic mammal playing the part is new, and so are the humans. But this syndicated show is a new version of the 1964-1967 series about a Florida Keys family.

* "Nova: What's New About Menopause" (6 p.m.-7 p.m., MPT, Channels 22, 67) -- Actress Stockard Channing is host of a new edition of the science show that examines recent research into the end of a woman's child-bearing years. PBS.

* "Boyz II Men Concert" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- This pre-papal visit concert by the R&B; pop group, from Camden Yards, is scheduled to include a taped message from Pope John Paul II. Also performing: contemporary Christian singers Kathy Troccoli and Michael W. Smith.

* "JAG" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Is this the ultimate mix of history with fiction? Iran-contra figure Oliver North makes a guest shot as a shadowy informant -- named Ollie! -- when Rabb (David James Elliott) investigates a fatal accident on an artillery range. NBC.

* "Outdoors Maryland" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., MPT, Channels 22, 67) -- More environmental reporting is the promise, as this series launches an eighth season. For example, we learn the state's population of frogs and salamanders is on the wane, suggesting a break in the food chain that could radiate widely to other life forms. MPT.

* "Touched By An Angel" (9 p.m.-10 pm., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Jasmine Guy ("A Different World") and Stacy Keach ("Mike Hammer") guest star in an episode in which Monica (Roma Downey) battles a former angel to re-unite a father and son. CBS.

* Andy Griffith Show Marathon" (8:05 p.m.-5:40 a.m., TBS) -- Trivia time! Can you remember which episode was the first for this 1960-1969 series? Watch it and 15 others marking the 35th anniversary of the beloved show set in fictional Mayberry, N.C. In that first episode (leading the marathon), Opie (Ron Howard) initially disliked the new housekeeper, Andy's Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier).

* "My So-Called Life" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., MTV) -- As promised, the rock network with the big teen audience brings back all 19 episodes of the critically acclaimed series dumped last year by ABC, with Claire Danes.
