Man given prison time for drug ring role

A key player in a drug ring that police say put about 50 pounds of marijuana a month into the Baltimore-Washington area was sentenced yesterday in Howard Circuit Court to 90 days in jail and 90 days in home detention.

Michael T. Farasy of Burtonsville was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 180 days suspended, for his role in the ring that operated out of an Elkridge apartment. He also was fined $1,000 and ordered to complete three years of supervised probation.

Farasy, 24, pleaded guilty in July to three counts of conspiracy to distribute drugs. Prosecutors say he conspired to provide drugs for two Elkridge men to sell in Howard County.

Farasy was one of 28 people charged for participating in the ring broken up in March after investigators used a wiretap to record calls to and from an apartment on Rowanberry Drive.
