Mount Airy boy hurt in crash reported in good condition

A 6-year-old Mount Airy boy who suffered head injuries during a four-vehicle accident in Glenelg was in good condition yesterday at the Johns Hopkins Hospital's children's center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Casey Martin was in his mother's southbound 1995 Plymouth on Route 97 Monday afternoon when the car veered across the center line and struck a truck and two cars in the northbound lanes, police said.

The boy's mother, Catherine Virginia Martin, 30, was flown by state police MedEvac helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was in serious but stable condition yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

An Olney man, Herman Foster Fredericks, taken to Montgomery General Hospital for treatment, was released Tuesday. Ms. Martin's 4-year-old daughter, Samantha, and the occupants of the other vehicles were not seriously injured, police said.

Traffic officers are investigating, police said.
