Manufacturer will replace defective seats at auditorium

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Two-hundred defective seats will be replaced this month in the auditorium at Wilde Lake at River Hill High School, Superintendent Michael E. Hickey told the Howard County school board last week.

The manufacturer will pay to replace the seats, Dr. Hickey said. The back of each seat apparently tilted too far back and created a large gap between the seat bottom and the back.

"Some people fell through it, I guess," Dr. Hickey said.

The seats have been a source of complaints since the school opened last year. Board Chairwoman Susan Cook recalled attending events at the school last year and being "very uncomfortable" when she sat up straight.

It was more comfortable if "I sort of slouched down," she joked. "I sat like a high school student would sit. It was a bit more comfortable, but it looked really strange."
