Juneau assists on all four goals, but Flyers tie Caps

LANDOVER -- Center Joe Juneau assisted on all of Washington's goals as the Capitals played to a 4-4 tie with the Philadelphia Flyers last night.

Martin Gendron, Keith Jones, Dale Hunter and Calle Johansson scored for Washington, and goaltender Jim Carey made 30 saves.

But this tie still was a bitter pill for Washington. The Caps had lost 4-3 in overtime to the Flyers in their first preseason game and last night Johansson's power-play goal 5:07 into the third period had given the Capitals a 4-2 lead.

But Eric Lindros scored on a power play at 13:11 and then the Flyers delivered the biggest blow. Philadelphia's game-tying goal by Shjon Podein was short-handed, coming with 14 seconds left on a Washington power play with 2:03 left in regulation.

"It's awful to give up the tying goal like that," said Johansson. "When it's that time in the game you can't think, 'What if we lose the puck?' You have to play it like you did all game. You've got to go after it.

"But this is the preseason, a time to learn from your mistakes."

Washington's preseason record is 2-5-1 with one game left in Greensboro, N.C., Tuesday before the season opener here Saturday against St. Louis.
