Washington, Goucher tie in men's soccer


Dan Gerbasi (Broadneck) scored with 1:41 remaining in regulation to force an overtime as Washington College and host Goucher College played to a 3-3 double overtime tie in men's soccer yesterday.

Chris Walton (Mount St. Joseph) had given Goucher (5-4-1) a 3-2 lead on a penalty kick in the 69th minute, after Washington College (6-3-1) was called for an intentional handball to prevent a Goucher goal.

Washington gained a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, but Radcliffe Roye answered for the Gophers eight minutes later. The Shoremen led 2-1 after a goal by Kevin Myers in the 36th minute.

Goucher 1, Rowan 0:Goucher 1, Rowan 0: Nicole Marconi scored off an assist from Joy Poneros 2:09 into the contest to lift Goucher College (7-1-1) over host Rowan (3-3). Dawn Greer made seven saves to post her fifth shutout of the season and 22nd of her career.

Western Maryland 2, Franklin & Marshall 1:Western Maryland 2, Franklin & Marshall 1: Katie Haley's unassisted goal 4:44 into the first overtime period gave Western Maryland (2-3, 1-2) a Centennial Conference win over Franklin & Marshall (3-5, 1-2).
