Four charged in slaying of man found in trunk

Prince George's County police have arrested four men on murder charges in the death of a Laurel man whose body was found Tuesday in the trunk of his car in a Beltsville park.

Police arrested the four Saturday and charged each one with first-degree murder in the death of John E. McMullen, 29, of the 3400 block of Lindenwood Drive in Russett Green. The suspects were identified as Jean Clermont, 23, of Wheaton; and Shanon Bonner, 24, Harold Mootoo, 24, and Rawle White, 23, all of Silver Spring. They are being held at the Prince George's Detention Center without bond.

Prince George's police could not provide details on how they found the suspects.

Mr. McMullen's body was discovered about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the trunk of his black, 1995 BMW 318i. There was at least one bullet hole in the car and one in Mr. McMullen's body, Prince George's police said.

Anne Arundel police reported Tuesday that Mr. McMullen and a female friend were sitting in his car in front of his house about 3 a.m. when three men, one of them armed with a semiautomatic handgun rushed the car.

They ordered the woman to lie on the ground and demanded money from Mr. McMullen before they put him into the trunk of the car and drove off, police said.

Cpl. Barry Beam, a Prince George's police spokesman, said the carjacking was not related to another that occurred about two hours earlier that day in the 200 block of Ertter Drive in Laurel.
