Sarah, a senior at Hammond, has a grade-point average of 3.78 in gifted and talented and advanced placement classes. She is president of the National Honor Society, the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. Last year she participated in the Independent Research Program.

Sara, plays clarinet and has been involved in the band and ensemble for four years. Last year, she organized a group of band members who raked leaves Saturdays for families.

A member of her class council and Student Government Association, she is the National Honor Society liaison to the Student Government Association. She has been on the homecoming committee each year and on the freshman/new student welcoming committee for three years.

She has been involved in Students Helping Other People, the French Club and National Honor Society's induction committee. Sarah has been a page editor for the school newspaper, the Bear Press, for two years.

Sarah also has worked on school plays and productions.

Her community involvement includes volunteering at a soup kitchen in Baltimore, and working as a summer volunteer signing up children and awarding them prizes in the reading program at the Howard County Public Library. She also has provided clerical support for her school's guidance office.

Sarah was co-captain of the junior varsity soccer team and a member of the junior varsity basketball team as a freshman. In her sophomore year, she ran varsity indoor track. She was girls' varsity basketball manager and lettered in varsity soccer her junior year.

She was a member of the Baltimore Beltway travel soccer league last year, and this year manages the girls' varsity basketball team.

Her hobbies include playing the clarinet, reading and attending high school sporting events.

Sarah's parents are Richard and Janice Greenleaf. Rebecca is her older sister.

Plans: Sarah is looking into attending James Madison University, Western Maryland College, the University of Maryland College Park or the University of Delaware. She would like to earn a degree in journalism. After graduation from college, she would like to work at a newspaper or magazine.

Her comments: "I'm good at writing and talking to people and doing interviews," she said. "I enjoy working to accomplish a goal and finish a project."
