County tourism office has a new director and a new location

The county Office of Tourism has a new director and a new office.

Barbara Beverungen, who has been an administrative assistant in the office for five years, now is administrator. The position has been vacant about nine months.

Sharon Kirk, who formerly managed the Visitors' Center, has been promoted to senior tourism assistant.

The women spent most of Wednesday packing to move the office from Winchester Professional Building to the Multi-Service Center, once an elementary school on Center Street.

"We are going to the principal's office," Ms. Beverungen told a meeting of the Tourism Association on Wednesday.

The staff now will have at least double the space and a separate storage area.

Ms. Beverungen said the new office also has a back door, making it easier to load displays and brochures for frequent travel and tourism shows.
