Woman charged with shoplifting Sears goods


County police have charged a Baltimore woman with shoplifting merchandise worth $229 from the Sears store in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway.

Police said a store security officer saw a woman take an answering machine from the television department about 5 p.m. Thursday, then walk to the hardware department, pick up a set of pliers and put them in her purse.

The woman went to another department, pulled a Sears shopping bag out of her purse and put the pliers and answering machine in the bag, police said. The security officer stopped the woman after she left the store and found her carrying another Sears bag containing women's jeans and a man's razor, police said.

Diane Louise McLucas, 32, of the 300 block of Holy Cross Road, was charged with theft.

Trying to stop thief, woman jumps onto car

A 73-year-old Pasadena woman threw herself onto the hood of a get-away car Friday in a vain effort to stop a woman who was driving off with her purse, county police said.

The woman, whom police did not identify, slid off the car when her assailant put it in gear. She was not hurt.

Police said the woman was walking to a store in Riviera Plaza shortly after 11 a.m. when a woman, about 30, grabbed her purse. The two struggled, but the younger woman got the purse and got into a white, four-door car.

Gunman robs woman as she unloads car

A 27-year-old Glen Burnie woman was robbed at gunpoint Thursday, county police said.

The woman told police she was unloading her car in the 400 block of Secluded Post Circle about 10:30 p.m. when a man pointed a semiautomatic handgun at her and demanded her purse. The suspect ran off after getting the purse, police said.

Driver, 30, arrested after high-speed chase

Officers arrested a Baltimore man on drunken driving and assault charges Thursday after he led them on a high-speed chase that began near Fort Meade and ended in a crash on Interstate 97 near the Baltimore Beltway, county police said.

Officers saw a 1987 Oldsmobile Forenza headed south on Route 175 in Odenton about 10:30 p.m. Thursday weaving across the double yellow line, police said. When they tried to pull the car over, the driver sped off, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph during the chase.

The Oldsmobile hit a police car at Routes 175 and 3, but continued north on I-97, police said. Police finally stopped the Oldsmobile after it struck another car. Police said they had no information on the second vehicle.

Andrew Scott Beckner, 30, of the 9600 block of 10th Ave. was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he was treated and discharged at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

He was charged with assault with intent to murder, driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol, and other traffic charges.

Pizza deliveryman robbed while on run

A pizza deliveryman was robbed of a pizza and an undisclosed amount of money Thursday as he delivered to a home in the 100 block of Meadow Road in Pasadena, county police said.

Police said the deliveryman arrived at the house about 11 p.m. and was approached by a man who was pointing something at him. The suspect told the deliveryman to drop everything he had and empty his pockets. The man complied, the robber told him to run, then fled himself.

Hanover man arrested in attack on wife

A Hanover man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he attacked his disabled wife and fought with officers, county police said.

Renate Margaret Zuck, 55, of the 1700 block of Maple Ave. told police that she and her husband were arguing about 11 a.m. Wednesday when her husband hit her several times in the head and face and ran off. Mrs. Zuck has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair.

When the husband returned to the house about 2 p.m., Officer David B. Zinn followed him from the house to the garage and tried to arrest him.

As the man left the garage, Officer Zinn grabbed his arm and hit him twice in the leg with a night stick, but the man pushed the officer away, ran back into the garage, grabbed a shovel and swung it at the officer, police said.

Officer Zinn tackled the suspect and handcuffed him, police said.

Walter Elmer Zuck, 58, of the 1700 block of Maple Ave. was arrested and charged with battery, abuse of a vulnerable adult and assault.
