Braves' A. Jones baseball's top minor-leaguer

MACON, Ga. -- Single-A Macon Braves center fielder Andruw Jones yesterday became the youngest player named Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year.

Jones, 18, the first minor-leaguer since Jose Cardenal in 1961 to have at least 20 homers, 50 steals and 100 RBIs in one season, is the first player from a low-Single-A team to receive the award.

Jones, who signed with the Braves when he was 16, is from the Netherlands Antilles, a group of islands just north of South America.

He batted .277 with 25 homers, 100 RBIs, 56 steals and 104 runs in the South Atlantic League.
