Frank X. Warthen Jr., a retired customer service technician for Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., died Sunday at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster after a heart attack. He was 56 and lived in Westminster.

Mr. Warthen, who retired in 1994 after 37 years with the utility, repaired appliances installed in homes.

Born in Baltimore, he attended Mount St. Joseph High School and served for a short time in the Army during the Korean War.

A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Westminster.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jacklyn Y. Martin Gorman; a daughter, Deborah Ann Uhler of Taneytown; two sons, Joseph Craig Warthen of New York City and Timothy Michael Warthen of Union Bridge; a stepson, John Carroll Gorman II of Huntingtown; two stepdaughters, Evelyn G. Lowenstein of Columbia and Marnell Carroll Gorman of Bloomington, Ind.; his mother, Florence Warthen, and two brothers, Robert and Bernard Warthen, all of Catonsville; and five grandchildren.
