Miss Union Avenue wins at Belmont


NEW YORK -- Miss Union Avenue scored a two-length, front-running victory yesterday in Belmont Park's feature, a $50,000 turf allowance for 3-year-old fillies.

The odds-on favorite in the field of five covered 1 1/16 miles on the firm Widener Turf Course in 1 minute, 41 2/5 seconds, carrying 122 pounds, including Herb McCauley, to her fifth win in six starts this year.

Remda, 117, ridden by Eddie Maple, out-finished the rest to be runner-up, and it was another 2 1/4 lengths to My Oooo Aah, 112, ridden by Jerry Bailey.

Miss Union Avenue earned $30,000 for Triumviri Stable and returned $2.90, $2.50 and $2.10. Remda paid $8.70 and $2.10, and My Oooo Aah was $2.10 for show.
