County police arrested a Baltimore man Wednesday after he allegedly tried to steal three cartons of cigarettes from a 7-Eleven store in Glen Burnie, police said yesterday.

The man walked into store in the 1600 block of Furnace Branch Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. and asked for one carton each of Kool, Winston and Newport cigarettes, police said.

The man then pulled the cigarettes, valued at $54, from the clerk's hands and ran.

As he tried to leave the store, an arriving customer blocked the door, police said. The store manager grabbed the man and held him until police arrived.

Guy Lamont Eldridge, 26, of the 3300 block of W. North Ave., was charged with shoplifting.
